Project Description:
In response to a significant, on-going rock fall that posed a serious hazard to employees and vehicles in secure areas of the water reservoir pumping facilities, SEC designed and constructed a rock fall drape system over 35,000 square feet of rock slope. The system included rock anchors drilled into dense / hard rock formations along the top edge of an overly steep metavolcanic rock slope above the facility's maintenance road and pumping station.
Minor scaling was performed along the slope face to remove loose materials. Rope anchors were installed perpendicular to the face of the existing slope and grouted in place with 4,000 psi (min.) grout. SEC crews, certified in the use of rock climbing equipment and rappelling, lowered themselves down the rocky slope face to install 3mm Tecco Mesh rock netting on the affected areas. Accumulated rock debris can now safely gather at the toe of slope and be removed with routine scheduled maintenance.
