Project Description:
SEC was initially asked to bid on existing engineering for the repair of a significant landslide that threatened existing structures on adjacent properties. Original engineering estimates for the repair were approximately $4 million. Instead of providing a bid on existing engineering, SEC redesigned the project, provided a more complete project solution which included on-site "ready graded" building pads, and provided a design/ build contract for approximately $2.5 million, a substantial design improvement and savings over the original project.
The project included the removal of 70,000 cubic yards of fill and slide debris. Grading was performed in three successive slot cuts varying between 50 feet to 100 feet. Existing, adjacent residences impacted by the slide were underpinned utilizing 24" diameter caissons, extending 15 feet below the slide plane. Cement grout was injected beneath the foundations to further stabilize the structures. Provision of subsurface drainage and construction of a new city storm drain were elements of the finished project.
SEC worked diligently with City of Oceanside building and engineering officials to secure all appropriate permit approvals / inspections in a timely manner.
