Telegraph Hill Rock Slide

Project: Telegraph Hill Rockfall Netting

Client: City of San Francisco

Location: San Francisco, CA

Geotechnical Engineer:

Cotton, Shires & Assoc.

Design Engineer:

Soil Engineering Construction, Inc.

Contractor:
Soil Engineering Construction, Inc.

Project Description:

In January of 2012 a few hundred tons of rock fell off the steep slopes of San Francisco’s Telegraph Hill, closing the road below and crushing a parked car.  Soil Engineering Construction removed a portion of the rock fall debris and rebuilt the rock fall impact fence at the toe of the slope.

Our crews, working from climbing ropes, then removed vegetation and additional loose rock to prepare the slope for extensive geologic mapping by Cotton, Shires and Associates who then recommended further measures to stabilize the slope.

This project is an example of how Soil Engineering Construction works closely with various geological engineering firms to arrive at an effective solution to complex problems.

  • Rock fall fence installation

  • Rock face scaling

  • Close coordination with Geotechnical Engineer

  • Complex permitting process
