Project Description:
Responding to one of the most significant coastal bluff failures experienced in San Diego County in recent times, SEC, Inc. initiated this project with the design and emergency construction of a 35' high seawall that encompassed the 120' long initial failure site. Ongoing failure of the over-steepened, undercut coastal bluff necessitated a final project scope of approximately 800 lineal feet of hand-sculpted, color-treated reinforced shotcrete seawalls, mid and upper bluff retention walls, bluff undercut fills and deep sea cave infills.

In addition to design and construction challenges, this multi-jurisdictional project required a coordinated processing effort with numerous government agencies. Although significant segments of the work were completed under Coastal Emergency Permits, the project ultimately required securing all necessary permits from the City of Solana Beach, the California Coastal Commission, the California State Lands Commission, the Army Corps of Engineers and the Regional Water Quality Control Board.
